Once. Connected to Wi-Fi, the update notification pushed out to the playbook. The download and installation took about a half hour. Check your blackberry handheld ,and in App World you will find a Bridge update, which takes about 30 mins to complete.
Once you’ve finished the restarts, you will see one icon change. In the Bridge folder there is now a Text Messages icon. It was a bit slow loading, but it accessed the text messages from the handheld. You will not, however, see any pictures you may have sent or received in a text thread.
This update also improves battery length over the last version. 688 update. Thank goodness!!! Some users have also reported faster response time navigating on the Playbook.
The next highlight was the email and organizer changes. For Email, Calendar, and Contacts, they can be viewed in Portrait mode as well as landscape. That was definitely a pet peeve of mine!!! If you went from application to application, you had to keep flipping direction if the apps had different orientation.
File transfer is supposed to be available, using the Bridge over Wi-Fi. However, I tried changing every setting, and couldn’t seem to transfer anything. I saw no menu option changes either. Any ideas anyone?
Lastly, the Android player is reported to have improved in function. I didn’t see any noticeable changes, but then again I haven’t really used the Android apps that I had “sideloaded”. I tried opening Skype but it never signed in. But I did go into App World and did a search for “Android.” There were quote a few Android apps listed.
So to sum it up, so far so good with the text messages! The rest is to-be-determined.
