Today, on February 1, 2023, Samsung unveiled their latest line of mobile devices during their Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. The Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra are Samsung’s newest offerings in the mobile market, featuring the latest and greatest that Samsung has to offer. They will sport the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile processor and a new body featuring Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and an Armor Aluminum frame. Each of these devices will be offered in four color schemes: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender.

At a glance, the new Galaxy S23 line has a very similar silhouette and look to that of the Galaxy S22 line. However, now the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ sport the same sleek and flat camera layout as the flagship Galaxy S23 Ultra model. This is a change from the protruding camera arrangement seen in the previous Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ models.
In the specs department, the new Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ each sport a 200mAh larger battery than their predecessors. The Galaxy S23+ now comes with a 512GB storage option that was not available before with the Galaxy S22+ model. All three Galaxy S23 devices now employ 12MP front facing cameras, which is a step up for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. However, this also a noticeable step down for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, as the front facing camera on the Galaxy S22 Ultra sat at 40MP.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra does make up for that with its new rear 200MP Wide camera, capturing even more detail than its “Ultra” predecessor. We got to play around briefly with the devices, giving me the chance to fiddle with the new Galaxy S23 Ultra. I already liked what saw from the 3X/10X optical zoom alone, making me wish we had even more time with the new camera during our preliminary demo.
I enjoyed my experience with the S-Pen stowed within the Galaxy S23 Ultra, so far. The actuation time between my physical stylus strokes and on-screen markings felt negligible for the most part. This allowed for both an accurate and responsive writing experience. Thanks to Galaxy S23 Ultra’s palm rejection feature, I was able relax and rest some of my palm on the device’s screen as I did some mild coloring. This was appreciated since I am not much of an artist, so I was happy with any help I could get.
