Wow talk about give people a chance to upgrade.  If this pass then, I can see people taking advantage of the system. Though we all know this is all for tax purposes.

Some leftist lawmakers in Mexico City have proposed an interesting workaround to the city’s high divorce rate—allow people to enter into temporary marriages, according to Reuters.

This week, the group of assemblymen proposed a change to the civil code that would allow couples decide on how long they wanted to be married for, with the minimum marriage contract lasting two years.

If things work out past the two year mark, couples would be allowed to renew their contracts. The contacts would also include provisions on how children and property would be handled if the couple decides to call it quits.

Proponents say the measure would allow couples to avoid going through the difficult process of divorce.

According to Reuters, around half of Mexico City marriages end in divorce, usually within the first two years.
