Metal Gear Survive: First Look

Desperate to stay relevant after the loss of icon, Hideo Kojima, Konami is trying to make some noise with their first post-Kojima Metal Gear title. This one is called Metal Gear Survive and many are laughing out loud over the game’s premise and look.

A four player stealth game set in the Metal Gear universe, due out on PS4, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2017. The story picks up directly after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, when a wormhole opens in the sky above Mother Base following the evacuation of Big Boss and Kazuhira Miller and absorbs the entire planet along with the MSF soldiers. They are then transported into an alternate reality where the only thing certain to us, future players, at this point is… ZOMBIES. Weird looking zombies with crystal shards sticking out of their heads but zombies none the less. Appearances from Snake Clones and other popular characters from the Kojima era are still an uncertainty.

While most are lamenting the new direction of the series as a departure too far gone, it should be noted that Hideo Kojima himself had expressed an interest in doing a zombie game in the past. Personally I welcome a change to the dynamics of what many consider to be one the greatest game franchises ever. I look forward to trying out the game’s stealth mechanics in a world full of zombies and whatever else lurks. From the big “un-reveal” at the end of the trailer we can clearly see, or hear, something massive is out there and at some point we’re going to have to deal with it.   Also, it looks like an outpost defense game and I have some hope that Konami will work as hard as they can to bring us something truly innovative in that genre. Their reputation is at stake here after all. Let’s face it, gamer’s may claim to boycott the company but that only goes as far as their next must play game.
