Comcast’s Live Streaming App Now Available to All Customers
Live streaming has become just another way we communicate. Increasingly, people are broadcasting their personal, real-time experiences to their friends and family, from a simple beach trip to a baby’s first steps.
When we launched Xfinity Share, the first live streaming app that lets users stream content directly to the television, we wanted to give people an easy way to share big moments on the big screen. Now, we’re announcing some changes that will significantly expand the number of people who can use the app.
Starting today, every Xfinity customer – video, Internet, voice, and home – can use Xfinity Share to live stream and send photos and videos to a TV. They can also use the app to send or receive live streams, photos, and videos on a mobile device. To watch live streams or receive photos and videos from Xfinity Share on the TV, consumers will still need to have X1 DVR capable set-top boxes.
When we launched the app in the spring, we made it available to a smaller subset of customers so we could learn how people were using it. So far, our data has shown a huge uptick in Xfinity Share usage on weekends and holidays when people are more likely to share big events – weddings, vacations, and graduations – that deserve to be viewed on the big screen. Plus, the majority of people who tried Xfinity Share are repeat users.
We are encouraged by the early results and look forward to more customers using the feature.
To stream to the TV, users just need to follow these simple steps: open the Xfinity Share app, select “Stream Live,” select “Stream to other contacts,” enter the home phone number or comcast.net email address for the person you want to see the video, and click “Stream.” A notification will pop up on that person’s TV, and all that person needs to do to watch the live streaming is click the “Info” button on the X1 TV remote. The Xfinity Share app is available to download for free from the Apple Store for iOS devices or from Google Play for Android devices.
By expanding the number of eligible users to the millions, we can’t wait to see how people will use it next. We’re also working on adding new features that will make the overall Xfinity Share experience even better. So stay tuned for more in the months ahead.
