SteelSeries APEX M800 Review: Mechanical at its Best
The SteelSeries Apex line of Keyboard first hit the market about two years ago, bringing in a level of accuracy and comfort you would expect from a mechanical keyboard and not membrane. So you knew it was only a matter of time we would get to see a Mechanical variant of the Apex. The Apex M800 is that and so much more, SteelSeries has crafted a mechanical gaming keyboard that feels as nimble and light as a membrane board, but with the precision and depth of accuracy you would expect from a mechanical keyboard. Simple put this keyboard dis sublime.
This was achieved by using, wait for it, wait for it. Their own custom switches (no MX Cherry key switches here) and it is fantastic. The new custom switch is called QS1 and it really steps things up; S1 switches have a 3mm throw depth, a 1.5mm actuation and only require a 45cN actuation force. All of the design choices in the QS1 switch specifications were made with two goals in mind: React faster and spend less wasted effort while gaming. Making it a very efficient and quiet mechanical gaming keyboard.
Besides all the hardware prowess, the APEX M800 also both some key software features that are essential to every PC gamer, Marcos. Using the SteelSeries Engine 3 you have the ability to attach macros is every single key on this keyboard. Yes that’s right, no key is left out. Giving you full customization and gameplay adaptation. The keyboard also support 16.8 million colors, with all of the LEDs on the M800 are individually customizable and feature a centered LED and a clear switch housing. The new keys are the perfect solution to show off your keyboard’s 16.8 million colors and 8 brightness levels with crisp illumination and minimal light bleed.
Overall there is nothing bad I can say about this keyboard; its light, fast, effective, with awesome macro key-set, get key illumination. Also not forgetting addition 2 USB ports, to connect your smartphone or other devices. The SteelSeries APEX M800 has set a gold standard for gaming keyboards in every respect in style, function and form. If you are a PC gamer, you need to be gaming with the APEX M800
