Sling TV Review: Television Evolved

img_0110[ad#co-1]

Sling TV from Dish networks, is the a realization of what I though TV would be about 5 years ago with Hulu, which never happened. Sling promises  live streaming TV on mobile platforms and other streaming media devices.  After a free 7-day trial, Sling TV is priced at $20 per month. The service requires no long-term commitment, annual cable contract, credit check or hardware installation, and customers can cancel online anytime. Customers can now watch live TV on the devices they already use to watch video – TVs, tablets, computers and smartphones. The Sling TV app is available on current-generation Roku players, Roku TV models, iOS, Android, Mac, WebOS Smart TV and PC, for Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. In the coming months, Sling TV is expected to launch on Google’s Nexus Player, select Samsung Smart TVs and Xbox One, with other streaming devices and smart TVs to follow.

So what does that all mean; simply put on almost any device you have without the need for a cable subscription. You can have live TV on the go with on-demand services to boot. My time with Sling TV  was interesting, at the Time of my use my channel selection was limited to ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, CNN, El Rey and Galavision with the $5 addition sports package. Now though a limited channel selection and one I hope will grow. My viewing experience on multiple platforms was seamless from iOS, Android devices to Roku box.  The On-demand selection is massive and on that would cover all your movie entertainment needs. What I hope to see are more channels in the core-package in the future as well as a more defined sports package that allows you have local sports coverage of your local teams from anywhere. Now no word on if this would work internationally. But if it grows to that extent, Sling TV will be divine. For now its a solid service that has a lot of room to grow and great potential and one that begs for competition for growth in this new-found space.
