[ad#ad-1]Like me, most of you probably haven’t heard of Sensio, a company specializing in Video and HiFi chips for home displays (Televisions), but chances are you have or are using their technology in your TV set.
Walking into the Las Vegas Hotel suite during CES, I really didn’t know much about the company Sensio. I had done my due diligence and googled them before the meeting combined with a quick perusal of their website, and what I found made me wonder why I was walking into this meeting.
Was I up for a surprise. Stepping into the suite, you could feel the energy in the room. Right away I was given a seat in front of two TVs. One a HD (1080p) TV and the other, an ultraHD (4K) display, both hooked up to the same PlayStation 3 system. This setup was the beginning of the end to my previously held belief that you need 4K content to enjoy the benefits of your 4K TV. This setup highlighted the fact that unlike the move from SD (480p) to HD (1080p) content which was, and in some cases is, still fraught with abysmal image scaling, the move from HD to UHD, will be smoother. The main difference between these two most recent formats, lies in the amount of ppi (pixels per inch) the display can handle and not does not necessarily affect the aspect ratio. Meaning that you get your 1080p content in stunning detail, better than you did on most HD displays.
However, what really stood out about this presentation was the fact that Sensio technology was not being utilized. The Sensio guys had put together this presentation just to highlight and debunk the idea that 4K TVs were useless without 4K content, and that impressed me.
After that presentation, I was taken over to another station where Sensio had their 3DGO software on a Vizio TV. The 3DGO app comes as a built in feature on supported devices, streaming 3D content to your display. The stand our feature of this app is that each video was compiled solely for viewing on a TV, this is not the same 3D experience you go in the theatre. Sensio has been able to acquire the Left and Right raw footage and combine them using their own processes to deliver the best 3D experience to your home. Alas, not all TVs are compatible with this app, you would need built-in hardware to utilize this feature.
This app works regardless of if your TV utilizes Active or Passive 3D. The advantage of doing this also extends to the ability to deliver High Definition 3D images over the internet without any lag. We were able to watch a movie without waiting for loading screens or buffering. Impressive.
Finally, I got a view of an unmarked tablet utilizing Sensio technology to implement a glassless 3D experience, and I was subsequently blown away. I have been aware of similar technology but seeing this in action was particularly impressive.
Sensio has stated that it hopes to gain more partners for its 3DGO app, but I wouldn’t expect any products with these feature to arrive before Q3 of this year. Currently their biggest partner appears to be Vizio, which currently has this feature present on some of their TV sets.
For the glassless 3D tablet, there was no word on release dates.
Overall, I left the suit feeling like I just found a group of people who were highly passionate about what they did, and a product that could possibly bring 3D content to the living room without media discs or hassles.
