Otterbox Commuter for the HTC One review

otterbox-commuter-series-for-htc-one-black-p38456-300[ad#ad-1]Why use a case anyway?
When I first got the One I told myself there was no way I would use the phone with a case on; it felt too nice in the hand and I wasn’t willing to compromise its design and premium build for a cheaper plasticy feel. However once I used the phone for a week or so and was used to the feel of cool aluminium and glass I had to admit I would, sometimes, like to have a case on it.
The Otterbox Commuter hits a sweet spot in case design, especially for the One. It provides a level of protection that warrants compromising the premium feel of the phone.
Like all the Otterbox Commuter series it affords two layers of protection. A silicon shell provides drop and shock protection and the hard external shell provides scratch protection whilst making it easy to get in and out of the pocket.

Fit and Finish
I have never had issues with Otterbox cases fitting devices improperly or not having a high level of quality control, this case is no exception. The silicon shell fits to perfection and snapping on the hard shell forms the silicone to the One so no edge is anything less than perfect. The case has no movement when it is on the phone and the hard plastic shell fits tightly enough to the silicone so a minimal amount of lint can get stuck between the layers. On the same note the soft silicone used in the case is the highest quality of silicone I have seen in a phone case. It doesn’t warp, it isn’t at all sticky and grippy (except slightly grippy in the hand which is a big bonus considering how slippy the One is when naked) and it doesn’t discolour or mark.

 Protection
If you need drop shock and scratch protection this case will have you covered. Its thick enough to protect against almost any everyday eventuality, without making the One feel bulky and awkward. The hybrid design is complemented by the chunky corners prevalent in all Otterbox designs. Furthermore the case provides enough of a lip to keep the screen from contacting surfaces if placed down.

Conclusion
If you need decent protection for you One then I fully recommend this case. It won’t be for everyone and I wouldn’t use it everyday, but if it saves my phone from a dent or worse once then I don’t mind compromising the One’s fantastic feel in the hand every so often. And for under thirty pounds you can pick you the HTC One Case, it’s a sound investment!
