Monoprice 28′ CrystalPro UHD Monitor Review [4K]

SAMSUNG CSC[ad#co-1]

Monoprice makes monitors? Yes they do and what we have here is the company’s 4K CrystalPro Monitor with a  native resolution of 3840×2160 pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It features five video inputs, including a HDMI®/MHL™ port, a HDMI port, a Dual-Link DVI-D port, and two DisplayPort connections. The monitor has a 3.5mm TRS audio input jack, so you can connect your computer’s audio output to the monitor and use the built-in 2-watts/channel speakers. It also has a 3.5mm TRS audio output jack, so you can connect and control an external set of speakers. When using HDMI or HDMI/MHL video, the audio is split off and is output to both the monitor’s speakers and to the 3.5mm audio output.

Graphically, it features a 1ms response time and a 1000:1 contrast ratio (typical). It has a brightness of 350 cd/m2, a 170° horizontal viewing angle, and a 160° vertical viewing angle. The glass features an anti-glare coating.  With all the specs aside how does the monitor fair for its $429 price point. The answer is mixed; that is because of the use of a TN display which really holds back the rest of the monitor. Yes watching 4K content looks fantastic and viewing high-resolution photos fair very well with the Monoprice CrystalPro. But when it comes to browsing the web of navigating around your desktop you start to notice the washed out nature of the display and that can be jarring. That been said this is not a bad monitor just a poor choice in panel selection and price. It has its advantage but I would wait for a price drop to pick the up.
