LG Chocolate Touch Video Review

SDC10600

(“LG Chocolate Touch Phone” provided by LG to be able to experience the product. Opinion & Review remains that of Booredatwork)

LG Chocolate Touch is the latest in the LG Chocolate series coming to Verizon wireless. The chocolate touch is a very music centric phone with built in Dolby mobile which gives the phone some seriously good sound quality. The phone comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera, 3G with Verizon’s EV-DO, Fm radio, full html Browser,VZ navigator, and Bing search

Hardware Design

SDC10605

The LG chocolate touch is a very sleekly designed phone,  with rounded edges, allowing for a comfortable fit in your hands. The phone is 4.3 inches in total length, with a 3 inch resistive touch screen with hepatic feedback for a very responsive feel. The phone comes with two interchangeable back covers for added style; which are quite easy to replace.  The inclusion of 1Gb of internal memory is also a plus as, some Smartphones do not have up to that amount for internal storage .The physical buttons on the phone, be it the 3 front face buttons or the 5 side panel buttons, are easy to access and use. The phone feels sturdy and easy to use in your hands, while the weight feels comfortable .

Interface

The Chocolate Touch runs a custom LG OS, that is quite intuitive and very user friendly, combined with a very responsive touch screen.  The Main or Homepage of the phone allows for greater customization with the inclusion of apps and widget for easy access into other program elements of the phone.

SDC10601 The addition of an email client with the integration of personal and corporate email adds an extra dimension to the phone, as well as a social media app that gives you access to the major social media sites ( Facebook, MySpace, Twitter) for access and updates on your profile.

Music Player with Dolby Mobile

This is were the Chocolate Touch truly shines. The music player is very easy to navigate, playing a song , skipping through songs is a breeze; but it is the sound quality that really takes the Cake. The inclusion of Dolby mobile on the device adds a very crisp and clean listen quality that is hard to find on many MP3 players yet a mobile phone.

Getting songs and adding song are also every easy, be it dragging and dropping the songs onto your microsd card or purchasing online through the VCast music store. Which also has a user friendly navigation process for purchasing songs. You can create a playlist on the phone, shuffle, repeat songs and use the preset equalizer setting. A cool feature or game on the phone, is called “Join the Band” which allows the user to play a musical instrument , either a drum set or a piano while listening to the song. Granted it has no real world application to your listen experience it is still a fun feature non the less.

The fun also comes with a an FM radio tuner that is also easy to navigate and has a song tagging feature that lets you tag a song of the radio then go ahead an purchase either the song or ring tone at the Vcast music store.

Camera  & Browser

The Chocolate Touch can take pictures in five resolutions (2,048×1,536, 1,600×1,200, 1,280×960, 800×480, 640×480), with five white balance presets, and five color effects. The picture quality of the Camera was quite impressive both indoors and outdoors. Though the video recording left a lot to be desired (seem the camera isn’t truly meant for video recording).

The html browser, though not an LG browser was very rigid and hard to use.  I do like the use of the volume keys as a quick access button to zoom in and out within a web page and it does render full web pages and not mobile pages. But it seem difficult to bring up the address bar  for you to type in a web address.

The LG Chocolate Touch is a very solid phone to own and use, the blend of Smartphone capabilities within a traditional phone and touchscreen functionalities is something LG has done well here.  The only things I would have loved to see improved are the video recording quality and an LG browser in place of the Verizon html browser. But in all the Chocolate Touch is a solid Offering in the Touchscreen cellphone market and it currently retails for  $49.99 with a 2yr activation on Verizon.
