Lenovo ThinkPad W540 Review

Lenovo W540-1[ad#ad-1]People who require the use of a powerful computer are always looking combine the performance of a desktop with the mobility of a laptop. There’s always a bit of a tradeoff of power for in favor of mobility, so of course the more powerful laptops are going to cost a bit more than a desktop of equal power.

The Lenovo ThinkPad W540 is a fantastic laptop for users who need to keep the performance of a desktop, but require the mobility of a laptop. Of course mileage may vary depending on the innards of your model, but this one I reviewed was pretty awesome. I personally don’t do any rendering or 3d animations or anything, but I play some World of Warcraft, and it handled that game like a champ.

Pros

  • Power. This laptop easily keeps up with the rigors of hard work.
  • Gorgeous graphics.
  • Amazing resolution.
  • Lightweight.
  • Good battery life.

Cons

  • Not the prettiest thing. Looks similar to laptops from the early 2000s
  • Mechanical touch pad is a little awkward, though I personally had no problems with it
  • The F-keys functions are now secondary with Windows 8 functions being the default now. (Though this is seems to be an emerging trend with most products, not just this laptop)
  • Gets uncomfortably hot when displaying graphics for any length of time, right under the user’s left wrist.
