LeEco Le S3 Review

[ad#co-1]

The market for mid-range Android devices is growing at a huge rate. This can only benefit the end-user and consumers as a whole as the capabilities for these devices has grown, but the cost for them has dropped significantly. With that said, the Le S3 is one such device that raises the competitive bar; coming in at $249.99, specs include a 1080p HD display (403 PPI), a 16 megapixel camera, 3,000mah battery in a unibody design, fingerprint scanner, Snapdragon 652 processor, as well as being dual SIM/unlocked out of the box.

Day-to Day Use:

Since day one, I was surprised how great the experience was on the Le S3. The Snapdragon 652 quad-core processor hums seamlessly throughout the OS, even with the custom skin LeEco has given the device. Naturally, I opted to use the Google Now Launcher skin but if you choose to use it stock you should have no issues. Being an iPhone user, I’m accustomed to having the fingerprint scanner on the front, but it took no time to get used to having it on the back. It not as accurate as other flagship device scanners, but it gets the job done 90% of the time in my use. On a side note, I have to mention LeEco’s custom apps and software on the device. Personally, I found them to be well made and surprisingly useful depending on the user. I found many of these apps to be tailored for the consumer to purchase more content, devaluing the whole “budget” concept behind the Le S3. LeEco’s apps also bogged down the OS, especially while doing any significant multi-tasking, so I opted not to use them. The 16 megapixel camera on the S3 does surprisingly well in good lighting conditions. However, video quality was a bit disappointing, and I would suggest you keep your hopes to still photos on this one guys. But the processor does allow for 4K footage at 30fps which is an added bonus.

Battery Usage:

Battery life on the S3 is definitely a highlight and can be attributed to the beefy 3,000mah battery pack. Quick Charge 3.0 is incorporated here, so even if you’re low on battery you can re-up the juice in no time. All in all, the Le S3 can cater to the power and casual user alike.

Summary:

Considering the price and specs, I can say the LeEco S3 is a good buy. That being said, if you can spend a little bit more there are other slightly more expensive, and better options. The market is plentiful these days and devices such as the Axon from ZTE, or the Honor Mate come to mind as much better buys, with proven track records in the mobile industry. However, if you are on a budget I would gobble up the Le S3 as a stocking stuffer for the holidays without hesitation.
