COMCAST ADDS 24/7 VIDEO RECORDING TO XFINITY HOME

Comcast 247[ad#co-1]

Comcast announced today that 24/7 video recording, a cloud- and motion-based video monitoring solution, is now available for Xfinity Home customers. The company is the nation’s largest residential home security provider to offer a continuous video recording service. According to Parks Associates, security cameras are the most popular smart home device, and more than 40 percent of people who own one, access the devices daily or almost daily through an app.

This new security and monitoring feature gives customers the ability to review past footage for up to 10 days on the Xfinity Home app or a computer. Users can also download video clips up to one minute to save or share with friends, family, or law enforcement and find key moments to watch by scrolling through a list of video clips captured when the camera detects motion. It also leverages industry-leading video analytics to reduce false motion events such as falling leaves or lighting changes.

Daniel Herscovici, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Xfinity Home, demos 24/7 video recording in Comcast Labs in Philadelphia.

“As home security and automation technology evolves, people want simple solutions that are easy to use and give them peace of mind,” said Daniel Herscovici, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Xfinity Home. “Continuous video recording has consistently been the most requested feature by customers, and the use cases span a wide range of interests from keeping an eye on an elderly parent or waiting for a package to checking in on your pet or watching your home while you’re away.”

Current video offerings available to Xfinity Home customers include the ability to view live video and schedule the platform to record 15 second video clips or take photos to save or share.

24/7 video recording is available now in most of Comcast’s major markets such as Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, the District of Columbia, Miami, and Philadelphia. It will be available to all Xfinity Home customers in the next few months. The service is included in the Xfinity Home – Automation package, and it can be turned on in the camera settings in the Xfinity Home app or web portal. Xfinity Home – Secure customers can add 24/7 video recording for $9.95 per month per camera. Users may have to upgrade their camera to enable it.

Xfinity Home customers can manage a wide range of home security, automation, and energy management controls through one seamless platform. Comcast recently announced a partnership with Earth Networks’ WeatherBug® Home optimization software that will help Xfinity Home customers further reduce energy use and lower costs.

Customers are also able to add the following devices to their home automation system as part of the “Works with Xfinity Home” certification program: August Smart Lock, Chamberlain MyQ garage controller, Lutron Caséta wireless controller and dimmer, and Nest Learning Thermostat. Additional devices and functionality will join Xfinity Home in 2016.
