If you don’t recognize that African-American actor standing between Jack Black and Ben Stiller, there’s a good reason: He’s white. In Tropic Thunder, an epic action comedy co-written and directed by Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. plays Kirk Lazarus, a very serious Oscar-winning actor cast in the most expensive Vietnam War film ever. Problem is, Lazarus’s character, Sgt. Osiris, was originally written as black. So Lazarus decides to dye his skin and play Osiris, um, authentically. Funny? Sure. Dangerous? That’s an understatement. ”If it’s done right, it could be the type of role you called Peter Sellers to do 35 years ago,” Downey says. ”If you don’t do it right, we’re going to hell.”

The Writers Guild of America board will meet on Friday to make a formal decision and set a strike date against producers. It would be the union’s first strike in nearly 20 years.

Steve Skrovan, a screenwriter for the Fox show “Til Death,” said a strike is all but inevitable.

Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers President Nick Counter said the news was no surprise.

“By the WGA leadership’s actions at the bargaining table, we are not surprised by tonight’s recommendation,” Counter said in a written statement. “We are ready to meet and are prepared to close this contract this weekend.”

The labor impasse concerns royalties from DVD sales — last negotiated in 1988. Writers also want royalties from the so-called new media — all the various places their works are now distributed, including internet downloads Read the rest of this entry »

for any of you who have been to see Transformers and wondered what on earth that strange movie trailer with the handheld cam was… well here is a little snippet ever. BTW Thunder E and I watched Transformers for the 2nd time (in digital this time) and again we saw this trailer. Honestly a pretty good trailer… I mean… can;t remember the last time when I was this curious about a movie. The “Bliar Witch” type trailer is explained in a recent interview…

So finally, JJ Abrams finally speaks out about his new film explaining how the trailer fits with the rest of the flick:

“I’m very active on this one, as I plan to be on all Bad Robot projects. The only things I’ve been involved with which I haven’t really had any creative role were What About Brian and Six Degrees — both shows that existed before Bad Robot really opened for business (meaning, when I put my team together),” Abrams said while on vacation in Maine. “Cloverfield is an idea that I had over a year ago, which I sold to Paramount. The point-of-view thing (Handicam) is the whole movie. Scenes from the trailer are in the film. I got a really talented guy (Drew Goddard) to write (we’ve worked together on Alias and, presently, Lost), and Matt Reeves to direct (we co-created Felicity and he’s pretty damn genius-level). We’ll be announcing the real title shortly.”

fantastic 4

So we caught Fantastic Four- Rise of the Silver Surfer on Thursday Midnight.. and here is my review. Thunder E will post his later on.

First of all…. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, for a comic book movie it had the right blend of cheese, humorous banter between characters, drama, action, and special effects. Don’t get me wrong, Spidey was still a little better but Fantastic Four didn’t do too bad.

For me, I think I would have enjoyed the movie way more if Susan (Alba) had just shut up and let me look at her pretty face. This movie has finally confirmed to me that Alba is so much more of a pretty face than an actress. Her acting was how you say… BORING! So expressionless! And what’s with the blue contacts!! UUGGHHHH!!!! I know Susan was Blonde haired blue eyed.. but she looked fine without them last time! But the rest of the cast was such a delight to watch… especially my darling Julian Mcmahon (NipTuck).. how handsome was he? The character chemistry was great, storyline was enjoyable but didn;t have me at the edge of my seat. And did you guys know that the Silver Surfers voice was Laurence Fishburne???? Ok so that confirms my fav character, Silver surfer… the ultimate sacrifice…. to save the one you love and all of mankind by sacrificing yourself….ha! What a man.. I mean.. Silver Man… ahahaha

Anyhoo, I thought the movie was pretty good. I’ll be honest to say that I wasn;t expecting much and i was pleasantly surprised, except for Alba of course. … bleah.

I say … 7 out of 10

Please say it isn;t soooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The whole “acting” thing didn’t exactly go over so well for Mariah Carey. Her first starring role, GLITTER, was the very picture of a vanity project gone terribly wrong. It was nominated for six Razzie Awards and not entirely helped by being released just 10 days after 9/11. Carey though is looking to get back into film and has found a rather unlikely partner - Adam Sandler. JoBlo.com can confirm that Carey will co-star with Sandler in his upcoming comedy YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN playing herself (don’t want to stretch those acting chops too far). In the film, Sandler will play a Mossad agent who runs off to America to be a hairdresser shaming his parents. Carey, as herself, will run afoul of Zohan’s former nemesis, The Phantom, launching Zohan and pals back into action. Dennis Dugan, who just worked with Sandler on I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY, will direct the film starting July in New York, Los Angeles and Israel.

Extra Tidbit: Sandler wrote the ZOHAN script with Judd Apatow and Robert Smigel (”Triumph the Insult Comic Dog”).

Micheal Moore is set to apear on Oprah Tomorroe the 5th of June to talk about the movie. She says that it’s THE movie to watch this summer. I found a clip of the movie.. it’s about the healthcare system in Amercia.. and I must say that after watching the clip, I really am upset and utterly disgusted and it makes me angry and want to go watch the movie even more. It’s unbelieveble what goes on, and how many people are hurt in the process. This is one post I encourage EVERYONE to leave a comment, angry or not. Let us know what you think.
