The Samsung Stratosphere is the first 4G LTE device on the Verizon Network to sport a full five row QWERTY keyboard, in all honesty it closely resemble last years break out Hit Samsung Galaxy S device the Epic 4G on Sprint Network. The Samsung Stratosphere sports a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, 5 megapixel rear facing camera with LED flash plus 720p HD video capture, 1800 MAh battery, micro-sim and a pre-installed 4 GB SD card,. It runs Samsung’s ever reliable 1.0 GHz single-core hummingbird processor with Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Touch Wiz UX 3.0.
The Stratosphere has the traditional Galaxy S finishing with its solid build, light weight( not as light as the Epic 4G) and solid keyboard. The Next question is how good does the keyboard feel on this device. . The keyboard is comfortable and easy to use, with well flushed out keys with logical key placements.The overall hardware feel is solid and continuous in every way.
As far as operating system goes, it runs Android 2.3.5 with Touch Wiz UX 3.0, sorry no Touch Wiz 4.0 here. Granted it doesn’t have the bell s and whistle you will find with TouchWiz 4.0 on the Samsung Galaxy S2. It still functional very well and effectively too, only down side is the lack of video chat through Google talk.
Now when it comes to data speeds,;4G LTE on this device is blazing fast, getting speeds of up to 35Mbps which is faster than the 10-15Mbps stated by Verizon. Not sure if this devices has a faster LTE chipset or Verizon just decided to crank up LTE speeds in my network area. But it was refreshing to note my phone had faster LTE speeds than my home network (Take that Comcast).
In all the Samsung Stratosphere is a good device especially for 4G LTE starved QWERTY keyboard consumers on the network. Yes it does have its draw backs, with battery life (@8 hrs) slightly bulk build and lack of video chat with Google Talk.
Still it does deter away from the awesome fast 4G LTE speeds, the well built and being the only 4G LTE device flushed out five row QWERTY Keyboard. The Samsung Stratosphere is a solid by for the QWERTY keyboard 4G LTE starved consumer.
